A different way of being
Not long ago, childhood looked different.
Kids disappeared into the woods for hours. They climbed trees, knew the names of birds, built forts from fallen branches, and learned to sit quietly within the landscape of their own imagination.
Somewhere along the way, we drifted.
Today, many children are growing up overstimulated, over-scheduled, disconnected from nature, and increasingly disconnected from themselves. Parents are carrying more than ever, often without the time, space, or support to offer the kinds of simple, deeply meaningful experiences children truly need.
Earth Drifters was created as a response to that reality—a place where children can slow down, awaken their senses, experience awe and wonder, and be guided by mentors who help transform those moments into lived wisdom.
Our Vision + Philosophy
We believe children are designed to learn in relationship with the living world.
Long before learning happened inside walls and under fluorescent lights, it happened beside creeks, beneath trees, around fires, and through shared stories. Children learned through curiosity, observation, exploration, play, mentorship, and belonging. They learned by being fully alive within the natural world, not separated from it.
At Earth Drifters, we are returning to that way of learning.
Rooted in the principles of nature-based mentoring, the 8 Shields model, and Coyote Mentoring, our programs are designed to awaken the instincts that already live within every child: curiosity, awareness, confidence, empathy, resilience, creativity, and connection. Rather than over-directing children, we guide through invitation, storytelling, modeling, curiosity, and meaningful experiences that allow wisdom to emerge naturally from within.
We believe:
-
connection comes before instruction
-
curiosity creates lasting learning
-
awe opens the door to stewardship
-
healthy risk builds confidence
-
stillness deepens awareness
-
belonging transforms behavior
-
and nature is not extracurricular—it is foundational to human well-being
In a world moving increasingly fast, we create spaces where children can slow down enough to truly notice.
To notice the spiral pattern on a snail shell.
The silence before birdsong.
The movement of clouds before rain.
The miracle of a dung beetle rolling its tiny universe across the trail.
We want children to gasp in wide-eyed wonder at butterflies, animal tracks, wildflowers, and hidden ecosystems most adults no longer see. To know the creeks, trees, insects, birds, and seasons of their local landscape as intimately as they know the rooms of their own home.
Because when children form a relationship with the natural world, protection becomes instinctive.
We are not simply teaching children about nature.
We are helping them remember they are part of it.
Our vision is to raise a generation of deeply connected humans—children who feel at home outdoors, confident in themselves, rooted in community, emotionally resilient, and fiercely devoted to protecting the living world they belong to.
Through love, wonder, relationship, and lived experience.
